When One Door Closes Another Opens

Just last week Busy Work Shop London (I refuse to call it by the name B***) closed down after roughly 5 years of money making. Although I personally havent purchased anything from there for well over a year it still slightly saddens me. The moments and emotions of all the queues, hype, happiness, sadness, empty pockets, friends, Starbucks, sleeping in cardboard boxes etc one has accrued over the 2-3 years are now merely memories. However this has softened the blow for me and a few FOs...

Over 1000

It came to my attention today that the Fashionable Otaku blog has accumulated 1,029 absolute unique visitors! This information spans from 29th August to 29th December 2008, so the overall figure should be slightly higher as the blog was started before then. But we shall stick with 1,029 being the 'official' figure. This may seem peanuts to some of the more established blogs about, but I'm sure me and my fellow FOs will be happy with this milestone. Also thanks to the readers of the blog and hope you stay locked. Thanks.

Louis Vuitton X Stephen Sprouse

Marc Jacobs has revisited his highly successful collaboration of Louis Vuitton and the late artist and designer Stephen Sprouse. The combination of the LV monogram and graffiti on a handbag is so iconic in the fashion world and is still one of THE most counterfeited handbags. This current collection is to drop worldwide at LV boutiques on the 9th January 2009. This coming collection will feature the obvious leather goods both petit and grande, sunglasses, a pair of sneakers, scarfs and a few RTW pieces all splashed with some fluro graffiti/artwork. The collection seems very gynocentric but Im sure a few pieces can be appreciated by the opposite sex too. Expect high demand and RRPs. For more information and images of the collection visit Louis Vuitton or We Love Sprouse.

Japanese Spider-Man?

Found this while browsing YouTube for the cartoon intros and have to say its an interesting take on spider-man....although i don't quite remember spidey being able to summon a giant robot to do battle.

Blast from the Past

Love 'em or hate 'em, cartoons of the 80's/90's were all part of our childhood, so its nice to take a trip down memory lane once in a while to a simpler time....

The Real Ghostbusters

Batman the Animated Series

Ducktales

Captain Planet

Inspector Gadget

Dungeons and Dragons

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

He-Man

Chip 'N' Dale (Rescue Rangers)

Spider-Man

Ahhhh they don't make cartoons like they used to, especially with such catchy intro songs! These are just some of my favs, but im sure that i've missed many other cool cartoons from back in the day so feel free to remind me of some of your favourites as well

My Top 5 Essential Apps

Here is a run down of my top 5, essential applications that i cannot (possibly) live in London without on my iPhone.

It's a lightsaber in your pocket? thats just about as Otaku as you can get!

4. Calculator
For me Calculations are always necessary wherever I go, be it the money that guy owes you or amount of times your laces cross over your sneakers tongue, its all has to be calculated exactly.

3. Facebook
Alot of people feel the need to update their status on the regular and what more could you want than Facebook while your on the move? upload and show off your mobile uploads as you maraud the streets of London, or have a butchers at that girl your friend keeps going on about...put boredom at bay and tap/swipe away at your new notifications and mortifying photo tags just as they happen!
Beware, Mobile Facebook also means your more prone to Facebook Status Rapes, Balou..

Nothing is perfect thats why pencils have erasers.. and thats why the london underground now has "Tubestatus". If you take the tube as much as I do you want to be in the know about delays, closures and people being underneath trains. This app gives near future perfect senses of the tube status, sort of like Spiderman's spider-sense .. without the tingling.

Seriously this is and probably always will be my most trusty app on the iPhone. Ever heard a song in a shop, club or a tv advert and never heard it ever again just because you couldn't make out the lyrics to type in google for a lyric search? Well hear is your answer "Shazam!" as they would put it. This crafty swine of an app tells tell you the artist, name and album of the track. (About 70% of the time that is)

Weekend

Pretty packed out, it was a nice recovery to the virus I had the past week. Managed to go to three different events on Saturday:
1)Livin Proof
Was pretty sick, although very packed! Ques to get downstairs into the dance floor? crazy! Chatted with the mateys and chilled for a bit, Still got my 1000ml of this tasty bad boy
Then off to event number 2, with a lil help from Camel Cars 1st driver, we managed to fit 7 people into a Ford Focus, check the pic for an idea of what it was like

2) Tradin Places
Again words like sick and this is the best its been for a while for thrown around the room, good atmosphere, nearly everyone seemed to be there, good farewell from Tradin for the year

Had to stare at my most wanted kicks of the year the whole way to the next event! Bloody Cassette Playa Blazers! Why couldnt DSM just told me they were going to release them early! AH

3) House Party
Me an a bunch o mates went on to a house party in good ol Hackney, chilled there, had my first Red Stripe (carnival beer)listened to some beats, had a laugh and chilled which led to the next day
Me and Brother Balou stayed up, enjoyed Central London in the morning for a bit, chilled in Starbucks then off to go check out the Nike Sports Wear sale it was! Not much going on to be honest, discounts were OK but with all these sample sales that have been going down I have gotten too used to sample prices!

GULLY MAAA!

If you havent seen the Indian take on MJ's Thriller then you HAVE to check this out, saw it a while ago but came across it again on youtube and had to post it! Sorry if im overloading on the Youtube recently but went through my favourites and thought id post some of them.

This version has subtitles

Monkey Money.....

A few days ago i made the mistake of buying my very first scratchcard. Just any other day, went down to the shops for a few things and thought, hey maybe today i'll get one of them scratch card things and try my luck. I don't know why, maybe it was the prospect of becoming considerably richer for just a pound or for the thrill and excitement from slowly scratching one panel and another to slowly reveal your fortune (man what a rush!), but one thing led to another.... Next thing i know im down a tenner and the proud owner of 10 useless card pieces.

On the back of these things it states 1 in 5 chances to win somthing, so in theory i should have 2 winning scratchcards!!! After a lot of reasoning and blame games (mostly blaming the smug monkey), i scrounged together a quid and bought my final Monkey Money scratchcard. Somthing was different about this one, this one was special, it was my final chance to redeem
myself and somehow justify my losses.....

My moment of triumph, i had just won 1 pound! Definitely a contender for the top 3 saddest things you can hope to see in your life is the amount of happiness a 1 pound winning scratchcard can bring to someones face.....

Action Jackson

I would like everyone to meet a friend of mine, I've never personally met the great man himself nor has he any knowledge of my existence. He is Action Jackson a motivational speaker and general do-gooder. He has helped me through many a dark time and as it is now the festive period meaning 'exam time revision' for many a young adult I thought I should make introductions, however his words should not be narrowly applied to academia only, anything achievable in life can be helped by Action Jackson. So now I would like to pass on his wisdom to readers of FO. If you liked it and it got you off your arse to do whatever you want to achieve in life then have a search in Youtube for more videos.

NOWHERE...Back To The Future!

This seems like fantastic news from Dover Street Market and is sure to be a must visit for Japanese fashion connoisseurs.

'15 years ago friends and collaborators Nigo (A Bathing Ape) and Jun Takahashi (Undercover) opened a tiny shop in Harajuku Tokyo called NOWHERE. It was Undercover's first ever dedicated retail space. The space also had Nigo's picks of US vintage wear.

During that first year Nigo launched A Bathing Ape in NOWHERE.

NOWHERE will open again for a limited period of time in the basement of DSM from 17th January 2009 selling A Bathing Ape products and exclusive products made by Nigo and Jun together under the NOWHERE name.'
I will definitely be making a visit and picking up some pieces!

Shamo x Fashionable Otaku

Hello readers of Fashionable Otaku! The newest member of FO crew Shamo here, hoping to share with you some general interests, my interests and the daily shenanigans of FO or what ever is on my mind....Little bit about me, well im 10% fashionable, 90% otaku and just any other run in the mill uni student striving to make it through his studies and fit in some fun times along the way. I would like to thank the nice folks at FO for letting me join in all the blogging fun and my aim is to put Fashionable Otaku on everyones favorites list!

Na na na na na na na na BATMAN!

Saw this car on my break from work other day, no plates which was pissing the traffic warden off! Had a nice crowd round it aswell, all mat black, any ideas what it is?

Rusko

So we went down to Decadence last thursday to a free night of Rusko and Tomb Crew, pretty average night, some good music but the sound system was pretty pissy as was the air con so thing got a bit sweaty.

Sorry for the bad pic, iPhone camera is crap and I have been slacking on taking my camera everywhere i go. Rusko dropped a Firestarter dubstep remix which was so sick! Need to know the name of it so if anyone knows, message us please!
Got given this if it interests anyone?

But yeah as I was saying, was a good night for not paying anything, the wings we had after from good ol FCKF(Fried Chicken, Kebab, Fish) was even better, 7 wings for £1.50, on it!

End of a 'Era'??

After hearing about the news about the fight of the year (De la Hoya vs Pacquiao), it's very sad to hear that a 'legend' such as De la Hoya getting beaten down by the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world right now. Not being bias against De la Hoya (although you know the reason why?) and speaking from a boxing/sports analysis point of view, it looked like the era of De la Hoya's peak has finally come to an end.
